The Feyenoord manager has been chosen to succeed Klopp as the manager of Liverpool, amidst emotional scenes at Anfield.

Fans gave Klopp a massive farewell well before kick-off, and his players were visibly upset post-match.

This included Van Dijk, who had to hold back tears after embracing his manager on the pitch moments after the final whistle.

Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold was seen with tears in his eyes after the speeches, when the Liverpool players and staff sang "You'll Never Walk Alone" together in front of the Kop.

Klopp has spent the last nine years at Liverpool, where he has won every major trophy, including the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup.

Several players have been with him through thick and thin, including Van Dijk, whom he signed in January 2018 for £75 million from Southampton.

The Dutchman turned out to be a transformative signing for the Reds, propelling them to great success in Europe and the Premier League.

At 32, Van Dijk will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the best defenders of his generation, owing much of his career to Klopp for helping him reach such heights.

He is not alone, with Liverpool now boasting a squad full of stars who will go down in club folklore, including Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Jordan Henderson, and Alisson, all of whom were developed into key players under Klopp.

The German manager was serenaded with his song after coming onto the pitch to give his farewell speech.

Speaking to adoring fans on the Anfield pitch, Klopp said: "I'm surprised. I thought I'd already be in pieces but I'm not. I'm so happy about you all, the atmosphere, the game, being a part of this family and about us, how we celebrate this day. Thank you so much!

"One of the Manchester City games we drew… That would have helped, huh?

"Thanks for ignoring my request not to sing my song for six weeks!
